Common defects affecting fibre optic cables including breaks, poor splices, misaligned couplers and even poor installation where a bend radius is too tight will allow light to escape from the fibre. In normal operation these defects are not apparent because the light sources used transmit light outside of the visible spectrum. However, with a VFL connected to the fibre a defect will glow red instantly indicating the location of the fault in the cable.
The VLS-8 Series Mini Visual Laser Source is suitable for both single mode and multimode Fibres.
There are different models available each with different output power, the higher the laser output power the longer the detecting distance range. If your application does not require high detection range you can choose a lower power model and benefit from longer battery life.
The VLS-8 Series Mini Visual Laser Source also known as a Visual Fault Locator (VFL), is small easy to operate and portable. Visible Laser Sources are used to inspect Fibers to identify damaged or broken points in Fiber cable and to check the integrity of connectors and splices.
